Observations from the center stripe: Local edition

THE UNION’S thorough report on the departure of Grass Valley City Administrator Dan Holler prompts two observations: Either the five members of the City Council and the city attorney can’t communicate with each other, or some members of the council are clueless or don’t care…THE CITY is now looking for a new city manager and is willing to pay up to $165,000 for the right person. That’s just $12,000 less than the salary of county Chief Executive Officer Rick Haffey, who supervises a lot more people and a much bigger budget… REORGANIZING the county’s Digital Media Center is analogous to rearranging the stumps in a homeless camp if it can’t secure an adequate, dependable source of revenue…DECEPTIVE ADVERTISING? The actors in the TV ads for the Post Office always wear neat uniforms, but the people who deliver my mail look like they sleep in their cars…HOLIDAY MARKET and other retailers that have a semi-monopoly in the south county should be very afraid now that an appeals court has cleared the way for construction of Higgins Marketplace.
