Observations from the center stripe: Drought edition

HERE’S ANOTHER water saving tip nobody’s mentioning: If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down…THERE’S GOOD and bad to mandatory water restrictions: We’ll have to sacrifice our lawn, but I won’t have any grass to cut…TWO DROUGHTS in the Bay Area taught me that it’s not hard to cut water usage by 20 percent. It’s amazing how much we waste…SACRAMENTO, the biggest consumer of water in this area, has water meters on half the customers in the city, but officials aren’t going to check to see who’s wasting water…LICENSE PLATE frame spotted in the south county area: “I like my husband, I love golf”…EITHER INCOMING Grass Valley city manager Bob Richardson is overpaid at $163,000 a year, or county CEO Rick Haffey is underpaid at $177,000 a year…CALL ME cynical, but I always figured pharmacy chains like CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens sold cigarettes to generate more business for their prescription drugs. Now CVS says it won’t sell tobacco products any more. Good for them…OWNERS OF Ford pickup trucks pay a stiff premium. Industry analysts figure pickups account for 10 percent of Ford’s sales and 40 percent of its profits.
