Have you ever noticed how county Clerk/Recorder Gregory Diaz is always front-and-center when there’s positive news to report, but nowhere to be found when somebody screws up–again.
Diaz’s most recent media appearance was May 11 in The Union, when he offered 10 handy, dandy tips for negotiating California’s primary election ballot. Just another selfless public servant doing his job.
But when his office found out May 13 that there would be a delay of almost a week in mailing the vote-by-mail ballots, Assistant Clerk/Recorder Sandy Sjoberg was dispatched to deliver the bad news.
Sjoberg said the outfit printing the ballots failed to make an appointment to get the ballots scanned for mailing, so they missed the deadline of May 12. They have an appointment to get that work done today, and if everything goes well, the ballots will be mailed around May 20.
Diaz’s office seems to have trouble with the printers they hire to print ballots. Two years ago, ballots were delayed a week because of an error by the printer. As we’ve come to expect, Sjoberg delivered the bad news then as well.
Careful, you will outrage Pelline!
Pelline doesn’t like this item because he can’t handle the truth about his favorite elected, but the facts tell the story: Whenever a development reflects poorly on Diaz’s job skills, one of his employees gets to deliver the bad news.
This has been a rough patch for Pelline, who will never admit he’s wrong. Two of his favs–Terry Lamphier and Julia Jordon–have legal problems, and Diaz is no poster boy for the competent civil servant.
Julie Jordan has legal problems?
That’s JULIA Jordon, former head of the Grass Valley Downtown Association, who has been accused of embezzling money from the organization.
What is wrong with you? Jeeze I am in agreement lately. Scary!
Don’t worry. It won’t last.
