QUICK HITS: The carpetbagger has the money

Jordan Fife, the new owner of the National Hotel, says he’s not a “carpetbagger.” That may be true, but the outfit that Fife said is financing the $5 million facelift, Eastern Real Estate, is a Boston firm that still hasn’t issued a press release announcing the investment and probably needs Google Maps to find Nevada City.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Any candidate for statewide office who thinks its worthwhile to campaign in Nevada County–like the 3 GOP candidates for governor–has no shot at getting elected to statewide office.

Why isn’t Donald Trump upset with the Russians’ effort to taint his election? Why his fascination with Vladimir Putin? Maybe he envies Vlad because he has the kind of power Trump can only dream about.

But Trump’s right about one thing: The Obama administration should have done more to counter the Russian hackers who were trying to disrupt the 2016 election.

The Russian indictments illustrate how irresponsible Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and others have been in monitoring content on their sites.

Given the number of people in the White House who still don’t have full security clearances a year into the Trump era, you can make the case that Trump is a major threat to national security.

People shouldn’t get upset because Laura Ingraham told LeBron James to “shut-up and dribble.” She’s just another Trump bot on Fox News.

George wouldn’t have made it to the Medill School of Journalism, just as he never made it to The Chronicle…..

I’m not sure that would upset me much George.

    From SFGate.com –

“Here’s the story behind those swings popping up around SF”

“Olive Garden’s newest menu item, the Meatball Pizza Bowl, is startling”

The internet presence at least (somehow I doubt the fish wrap version is substantively better) is little more than “cute cat stories”, food and Bay Area real estate porn. Wholly unsuitable for a curmudgeon (a good thing) like you but ironically perfect for “The Nations Editor”.

    • The version of SF Gate you’re looking at is the substance-free version. You have to pay for the one that carries the content of the newspaper. Still, there is a reason why the paper is known as “The Comical” among its peers.

They have a lot in common besides their jealously for The Chronicle……

jeffys inner “teenaged princess” forever struggling to get out…..

    • Only somebody who is really insecure has to keep reminding people how great he thinks he used to be. If his body of work had any substance, it would speak for itself. It apparently is speechless.
