Small towns are a hoot, as Podunk Pelline keeps reminding us

Jeff “Podunk” Pelline is all aflutter that his magazine was called “classy” in, of all places, The Union.

The word was used by Lorraine Jewett in her column, “Lorraine’s Lowdown,” where never is found a discouraging word. Lorraine speaks for herself, not The Union. As the paper continually reminds readers, opinions expressed by columnists are their own and don’t necessarily reflect the viewpoint of management.

But what’s really interesting is that Jewett made the comment in the context of reporting Jeffy’s membership in the Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce, an institution he has regularly trashed on his blog.

Jeffy had it in for Keith Davies when he ran the chamber with his wife, Robin Galvan-Davies. In Pelline’s accounting, Davies was just a front man for the good old boys who run the town and retard progress. Here’s just one example of Podunk’s bile; there are plenty more if you’re interested: https://sierrafoothillsreport.com/2014/06/09/incoming-district-3-supervisor-miller-jumps-in-the-pool-on-election-night-its-a-small-world-after-all/

Davies has since moved onto other ventures, but his wife is still running the chamber. You have to wonder what she thought when Jeffy’s membership application showed up in the mail, and you have to wonder what he thinks he can gain after trashing the outfit all these years.

But business is business, and this is a small town. What a hoot!

  1. This post obviously struck a nerve. As usual, Jeffy’s reply focused on slaying the messenger without addressing the hypocrisy of joining an organization he’s been trashing for years. I wonder what his blood pressure was while he was writing his reply?

But at least I know where I can get his “magazine,” assuming I wanted to read it. As of 8:30 a.m. today, you couldn’t find the current issue at the Holiday Market on Combie Road–seven days after it was allegedly distributed from the Bay Area to Reno and points north. Maybe he should follow Tom Dalldorf’s example and kill the print edition–think of all the trees he could save!

One more thing: Jeffy didn’t credit The Union for the mug shot of me he ran. Practice what you preach, big boy.

On Facebook, a reader summed it up well: ” I love it Jeff; way to go!πŸ₯°πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ‘β€ Sorry about that old bean. ROFLOL.

      Reply

Summed up well indeed…..”Me….me…..me”…..always about me!

    • As I have noted before, he is one of the few people I’ve ever encountered who can strut while seated.

  2. Barry Pruett says:

I suppose that there are no principles present in the man. Never an admission of β€œhey, I was mistaken.” Lol. He must have been a joy to work with at The Union. πŸ™„

  3. Jeffy’s continuous focus on himself reminds me of an old joke.

Two guys meet for the first time in years.
    “Ed, how are you?”
    “Great.”
“Enough about you, let’s talk about me.”

  4. Jeffie’s “Endless Summer” trip to the Big Island didn’t do anything to improve the attitude of a man who claims to be a jolly fellow. Among other things, he’s mocking Barry Pruett for “grinding axes” at Rebane’s Ruminations when he should be enjoying his vacation in Spain. Of course, it was okay for Jeffie to take a break from his “Endless Summer” to grind his ax over my June 17 column in The Union.
